Dues

Are there yearly dues?
Yes. Dues effective January 1, 2006 are $12.00 annually. The Lodge year runs from January 1 though December 31. Dues are payable starting October 1st for the coming year.

Do new Ordeal members have to pay dues?
The Ordeal fee includes current year of dues for those going through an Ordeal in the first half the year - either the Spring or Summer Ordeal. Anyone participating the Fall Ordeal event will have their dues automatically paid for the following full year.

What do dues cover?
To be considered an active member of the Lodge, your dues must be paid. Nearly 50% of a person's lodge dues is for national OA registration as well as for Chapter annual operating budget. The remaining amount is for communications (e.g. four annual issues of the "Eagle Pipe" newsletter) and events and activities within the lodge, such as OA University and Lodge Leadership Development training. Special recognitions and scholarship fund are derived from annual lodge dues.

Where do I send the dues form?
Our lodge sends each person an invoice for their annual dues and there will be instructions on the form. Dues are to be mailed to the O-A, c/o the Dauch Scout Service Center 1776 West Warren Avenue, Detroit, MI 48208. Dues can also be paid in person at the Dauch Scout Service Center. Chapters also may accept dues, for the Lodge, at chapter meetings.

Once I pay my dues, will I get a membership card?
Membership cards are available from the membership committee and are usually mailed with the Eagle Pipe (the Lodge newsletter). The membership cards are also available at Ordeal weekends. If you are registered in the Detroit Area Council as a Scout or Scouter, you can (and must) transfer your Lodge membership to Migisi Opawgan Lodge. On the dues form you will note the Council and Lodge in which you were inducted and we will contact your prior Council for your O-A records.

I am moving out of the Council, is my O-A membership transferable?
Certainly. When you get where you arere going, have your new Council formally request your O-A records from us. Once you register in a new Council, you will officially be a member of their lodge.

Can I be a member of more than one Lodge?
No! National policy dictates that you can only belong to one lodge at a time. It must be the lodge associated with the Council where you hold your primary registration. Even if you pay a registration fee to more than one council, you must choose only one lodge.

I am not registered in the Council; can I join Migisi Opawgan Lodge?
No. National policy dictates that you must be registered in the Council in which you wish to hold O-A membership.

Do my O-A dues include BSA registration?
No. O-A membership is exclusive of membership in the Boy Scouts of America.

Do I have to be registered in the BSA to be member of the Lodge?
Yes. You must be registered in a Pack, Troop, Crew, Team, or at-large in order to be considered an active member of the Lodge and participate in Lodge events. O-A membership does not supersede or include BSA membership.

Where can I purchase Lodge Flaps and O-A supplies?
Lodge Flaps, O-A sashes, and Lodge merchandise can be purchased at each Executive Committee meeting and Lodge Function.

I've heard you could become a lifetime member with a one-time dues payment. Is that true? How much is it?
The short answer is no. The slightly longer answer is that National Policy requires that each member belong to only one Lodge and lifetime memberships interfere with that. They were banned years ago. Migisi Opawgan has never offered life memberships.
