Tonight will be your one and only chance to help prepare the mailing for the Fall Eagle Pipe! If you've always wanted to help bring the best news to your friends and fellow arrowmen, this is your chance!

We'll be assembling the Eagle Pipe beginning tonight at 7:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Dearborn. You can also attend a Lodge Executive Committee meeting and learn first-hand how the Lodge makes decisions.

Don't miss your chance!

The Heat is On!
Ran July 12, 2010 through July 17, 2010
There are only a handful of days left to submit your article for the next Eagle Pipe. The deadline is July 17! If you haven't submitted your article yet, what are you waiting for?

For chapters, this article is part of the Neynabor award; if you're an officer and you'd like to earn that prestigious award, then you need to work with your chief to ensure you have an article in every issue.

Don't delay, send it today!

Eagle Pipe Deadline
Ran April 27, 2010 through May 8, 2010
The deadline for the next Eagle Pipe, which will be mailed on May 19 is May 8. Please submit articles to me on or before that date to ensure they make the next issue.
We're planning to fold and assemble the Eagle Pipe at the LEC meeting on the 19th of May

Eagle Pipe Deadline
Ran February 9, 2010 through February 19, 2010
The deadline for the next issue of the Eagle Pipe is February 19, 2010. Articles should be submitted to me or to Mr. Kelly before that date.
In writing your article, please take into account that the newsletter will probably be delivered the first week of April, so promoting events in March won't work.
Thanks for your cooperation

Communications Survey
Ran June 3, 2009 through June 17, 2009
Our survey is still open. It will probably take you less than 5 minutes to complete and the results will help us shape electronic communication in Migisi for the coming years. If you haven't taken it yet, please check out www.migisi.org/survey or just click on the link in Hot Topics.

Your Help is Needed!
Ran May 26, 2009 through June 15, 2009
We are conducting a survey on ways to use technology to improve communications in our lodge. We'd love to have input from as many members as possible.
You can find a link to the survey in the Hot Topics box on the homepage or you can point your browser to www.migisi.org/survey/
The survey will close in mid-June and results will be published shortly after that. We'll be using the data to identify which of several new communications tools we should use and how effective some of our current tools are.

Help needed
Ran March 19, 2009 through April 5, 2009
We haven't had much response to our request for help with the website. Migisi has more than 1,000 pages of content and we could definitely use a few more sets of eyes.
Please let us know if you see anything weird. If you don't see anything weird, let us know you looked so we can stop worrying :)
One thing you can do is to go to a page and click on the HTML 4.01 banner on the bottom of the page. If you get any errors, forward us the URL for the page so we can take a look and fix them. Those errors have, in the past, been an automatic disqualification from the website contest, so this is fairly important.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Help Wanted!
Ran January 28, 2009 through February 14, 2009
Once again we're gearing up for NOAC and one of the things we like to do is make sure that migisi.org is in tip-top shape before the judges get a look at it.

Over the next few weeks, please feel free to visit lots of pages and generally bang on things to see if they break. If they do, please email us and let us know what you've found so we can fix it before the judges get a chance to see it.

This year, we have one extra task. We're looking for references to D-A that don't say D-bar-A Scout Ranch. If you happen to spot one, please send an email along with the page that you found it on so we can make a correction.

Migisi.org is a huge site and it only works because of the hard work of all our members.

Campers Wanted!
Ran October 11, 2007 through November 11, 2007
Our online camping guide is in need of some updates. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer editor please contact Steve Donohue at sdonohue@wintercamp.com

The updates are done online using a web form. All that is required is knowledge of campgrounds (or time to look things up on the web) and a desire to help. A modicum of spelling skill is nice, but not mandatory - if you do the hard part, we'll be happy to spellcheck for you.

Spam Attack
Ran June 5, 2007 through July 5, 2007
As many Lodge and Chapter officers are aware, our site was the subject of a fairly successful spam attack today. I say fairly successful because it appears that several people received between 10 and 30 emails. My stats show that we blocked more than 1000 today, double our normal average (yes, we receive 500 spam hits against our contact forms each day).
I apologize for the inconvenience have taken steps to reduce the incidence of such events. All the web contact forms now include a request for a random point of the scout law in a drop down window. For now, the points are in order, making the question very simple for a scout or scouter but not so easy for machine generated spam. We will continue to monitor the situation and take additional action (such as randomizing the list) as needed.
For the geeky among us, not providing an answer is considered a failure as is not having the check variable passed. I think this one will at least force the spammers to use real people who can count to 12.

June eagle pipe looms!
Ran May 10, 2007 through June 1, 2007
The next eagle pipe will be assembled and mailed mid-June, so we need articles from all committees and chapters at least two weeks in advance. To set a firm date, let's make June 1 the last day to submit articles. PLEASE don't wait until the June to write one (or even worse, 2 days after...), otherwise I will make up interesting lies about your committee/chapter's activities. You can turn in articles as early as you please, however.

I hope to hear from all VERY soon :)

Website Failure
Ran September 5, 2006 through September 12, 2006
We are experiencing intermittent failures of the server which hosts Migisi.org. Our host has identified the problem and is working to resolve it.
In a nutshell, we use shared hosting. In addition to our website, a number of other websites are hosted on the same server. One of those sites has been attacked by a malicious script which is exploiting outbound mail and hijacking the server.
This is the same problem that has affected the site on and off since Friday morning. We hope to isolate and remove the problem in the next couple of days.
Thanks for your patience.

NOAC Website Results
Ran August 5, 2006 through September 5, 2006
I received our results today and we did pretty well. We scored 97.4 out of a possible 100 points. The complete results are posted on the Communications Page under the resources section. There are 4 key goals which I think we can derive from the results:

* Improve our color scheme either by ditching the yellow for a better color or making a more drastic change

* Verify that page titles are unique, make changes in the photo gallery titles

* Add more graphic cues to the site, particularly the news and calendar sections.

* Work to ensure that event descriptions exist on the calendar when there are no links to the events pages.

All of these will take a concerted effort from many members of the lodge. Suggestions for completing these or for other improvements are welcome!

Spam Attack
Ran July 8, 2006 through July 22, 2006
The Migisi Opawgan website has been under attack from an Italian spam generator for the last week or so. I believe I have eliminated their spam, which took the form of automated calendar and news entries. If you have received or receive any strange messages from the site, please forward them to me so I can continue to address this problem.

The second episode of The Eagle Speaks was recorded at the latest LEC Meeting. Our thanks to the vocal talents of Jason, Steve, Andrej, TR, Chris, Mark, Corey, David, and Kevin. You can find the latest file on the home page of the site.
As a bonus, we recorded the Lodge Song and it too is on the home page. If you've been worried you won't sing it well enough, just listen to the mp3 a few times and all your fears will be assuaged.

Operation Fine Tooth Comb
Ran February 5, 2006 through March 5, 2006
As you may recall, one of the things that caused us problems in the 2004 NOAC website competition was something called "validation". We’ve made big improvements since then and believe our pages are valid. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to check.
What is needed is for a few volunteers to validate the various pages and make sure that they are valid and that all our links are correct and working. A bit of proofreading as you go wouldn’t hurt either :).
If you’d be intersted in helping with this, it’s pretty easy. Just pick a section of the site that interests you and visit the pages. At the bottom of each page is a button that says "WC3 HTML 4.01". If you click that button, it will run the page through a validator. If you find any pages which do not come back as valid, please email me the url to the page so we can make corrections.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ran August 20, 2004 through September 20, 2004
We've posted the results of the website evaluations at the 2004 NOAC along with some commentary. You can find it on our committee page. We've also created a new look for the front page at http://www.migisi.org/index2.php.
We know some of the links don't work (parents, web tools) but we're really looking for feedback on the style and functionality of the page. We'd love to have everyone take a look at it and let us know if they have any problems and what they think of the new design. When you send us your feedback it would help if you could tell us what browser and version you were using (like AOL 9.0 or Internet Explorer 6 or whatever - you can usually get your version by going to Help then About)

NOAC Website Competition
Ran August 9, 2004 through September 9, 2004
Our Lodge competed in the Website Competition at NOAC and we were not one of the Honor Lodges. Over the next few weeks there will be some changes as we attempt to use the feedback they’ve provided to improve the site. If you find something odd, please let us know.
There are two things you are likely to see:
First, at the bottom of each page there are three images. The first one will see if that page has valid HTML; if you happen to click on one and get errors from the validator, please let us know. The other two buttons are less interesting - one says our style sheet is valid, but since there’s one style sheet for the whole site, nothing exciting will come of that. The second one says that we’ve been rated by ICRA, a content standards group.
The second thing is that some pages may show two titles, one on the left and one in the center. If you see that, please let us know about that one too.
Thanks!

Mailing List Changes
Ran April 29, 2004 through May 6, 2004
Starting yesterday we’re doing a lot of work to improve the Migisi mailing list and to create new ones for each chapter. Our goal is to improve the way we get the word out on Lodge and Chapter events.
You may receive an email asking you to join a chapter mailing list, please accept the invitation so we can build a good listing of chapter mails. Likewise, you may be asked to verify that you really are a member of our Lodge if we don’t recognize your email as one in our database. Please don’t be offended we’re just trying to make sure we’re sending the message to the right people and only the right people.
Thanks again and as always, please write us with any questions or suggestions to improve or use the website!

Eagle Pipe Deadline
Ran April 28, 2004 through May 11, 2004
In a mere 13 days, the deadline arrives for the second issue of the critically acclaimed Eagle Pipe. To get your article in this issue, simply write one and send it to me, Ethan Rein. If you are a chapter chief or lodge committee chairman, I expect you to have an article, because there is a lot going on with your jobs, and those things should be reported to the lodge membership. The Eagle Pipe goes to the lodge membership, so you are in luck.

But wait! The Eagle Pipe is not limited only to committes and chapters, anyone who would like to put in an article can, and I’m sure there would be very few circumstances when it would not get in.

Anything submitted to me after the May 10 deadline will sadly not be included, so there is no sense in waiting. send me something today.

Finally, if you are interested in helping the communications committee assemble, fold, and put labels on this upcoming issue, let me know.

Website Changes
Ran November 16, 2003 through December 16, 2003
The often talked about update of the Migisi site has begun. At the moment, we’re doing some positioning work, moving many of our static pages to a more interactive format. The objective of the new format is to put us in a much more flexible environment for the future.
For the technically inclined, we’re taking all our old html and shtml pages which were based on flatfiles and perl scripts and moving them to PHP and a database.
We think you’ll be happy with the change and this will make it much easier for us to change our look and feel in the future.
For the next few days, you may find some broken links or features. If you do, please let us know so we can correct our errors. Thanks!

Where is...
Ran October 17, 2003 through November 17, 2003
A quick reminder: the Lodge Website is a group (read that word as LODGE) effort. The Web Committee has invested a lot of effort to let anyone in the Lodge provide us with news, dates, whatever. If you find something you think is missing, please tell us. Better yet, if it’s for the calendar or it’s newsworthy, please enter it, then tell us.
Our view of The Eagle Pipe and the Website are pretty much the same - we are publishers of content. That means if we don’t get content, we don’t publish much. On the other hand, if we do get content, we pretty much publish it.

This problem should be resolved in the next 24 hours.
In the meantime, you can still reach the site using the alternative address www.migisi.com. It is possible that certain functions will perform strangely (notably anything which involves adding data to the site), but the results should be acceptable.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

New History Pages
Ran October 3, 2003 through October 17, 2003
If you haven’t checked out the History page lately (it’s under Resources or just http://www.migisi.org/history) take a moment to do so. We’ve added a cool year by year feature that lets you see what happened in different years. We’re also looking for suggestions and improvements to make it even better.
The new history is probably the only place you could find out that Mr. Primrose got his Brotherhood, Mr. Ray got his Vigil and I was born all in the same year. Of course, none of us were misters then.
We’ve also upgraded some of the awards pages to pull from the same source. If your awards aren’t listed, drop me a note and we’ll make sure they get into the database.
